Manyaku is a translation environment for comic books. Fundamentally, it consolidates the scanlator toolbox and limits drudgework like script formatting, commenting, and window management.
While translating something in Manyaku the image view jumps to the part you're working on. Script tags, color and formatting generate dynamically. New pages are automatically detected and added; a revision history of translation is kept. Rather than commenting on item location, the translator can simply indicate it onpage with a filter. It can make scanlating fun again.
Manyaku is an eiseiwago of mine (though I've found others using it) meaning "frivolous translations." In Japanese you would write it as 漫訳; incidentally, the first character is also used in "comic book" (漫画 - Manga). I am set on the name despite, or perhaps because of the fact that it sounds as stupid in Japanese as "walkman" sounds in English.
Penguinistas out there will be glad to know Manyaku is GPL-licensed. For the specifics of what that means, read the full text over at gnu.org. The gist is that you're free to do what you like with the program, provided you cede the same freedoms to everyone you redistribute it to.
